Lana Del Rey – @lanadelrey

For the past few weeks, I’ve been hearing Lana Del Rey’s “Video Games” a lot on the radio and I can’t help but wonder. She sounds so deep and melancholic; beautiful sadness. I went on to listen to her other single “Blue Jeans” and she still has that heavy-hearted and languishing sound. In a previous post, I was talking about how branding is important for any artist and she is great example. She definitely sets herself apart. As stated on her Facebook page her genre is Hollywood pop / sad core. You could not be as precise as that. I love her music videos. She doesn’t have an album out yet but she surely is hitting the industry pretty fast.

Will Driving West – @willdrivingwest

October’s coming… I’m looking outside, the gray has now filled the sky, the rain is going to be our companion for a long while. Will Driving West’s song “October’s Coming” is a heartfelt wish for a last chance to feel, to live. Deep but subtle vocals, moody guitars and piano directing you to a predestined faith but in a calm and peaceful way.

Sola Rosa – @solarosa

Sola Rosa master the art of combining all styles of soulful music, vintage sounds and down-beat electronica. I LOVE IT.

Truth to be told, what attracted my attention was their deluxe edition of “Get it Together” released in 2009. Designed by Dan Stiles, the limited edition LP is pressed onto 200 gram translucent ice blue vinyl with 12″x12″ silkscreen printed cover. Beautiful. They are from New Zealand.

A few months back, the students of Dublin’s Sound Training Centre (where I got my Diplomas in Sound Engineering & Music Tech) have released a charity album called “Silver Lining”. The album is in support of the charity Headstrong, the National Centre for Youth Mental Health in Ireland. The compilation features covers of 1986 music hits and are performed by some of the most popular acts in Ireland.

I Am Un Chien – @IAMUNCHIEN

Discovered this most amazing song so I had to research the band responsible for the vibrant “You and I”. What I found was surprising.

Coeur de Pirate – @beatricepirate

I came across this band on Hype Machine. I was working away and heard nice vocals with street lyrics and wondered who the band was. The recording was raw and live. Then I spotted it was a French name “Coeur de Pirate”, but the song I was listening to was “wicked games” a cover from the Canadian band The Weeknd.

Once Hoarsebox, I briefly met with This Club a few years back when I was studying sound engineering at the Sound Training Centre in Dublin. Every month for our live sound class, we would organise a live event at the Button Factory where each student had a role for the night. I remember when I heard them while sound checking, I said to FOH engineer: “Are they signed with a label?”, ‘Nope! They are not.” I replied “they are label material. They just need the right moment.” Not that I think all bands should be signed. You know my position on this. Don’t wait for the label to start your career. Do your work. If the label shows you any interest, great. If not, make it happen yourself.

This Club are a talented and charismatic bunch, very energetic and engaging on stage. People like them. I was eager to hear more music from them and they got their right moment. They are now releasing their debut album with Warner Music Ireland. So, here it is, the new single “I won’t worry”

First, I was taken a back by the change of name. It didn’t sit well with me but then, I understood why they did it. I was listening to them as Hoarsebox and not as This Club. Their new pop sound grew on me. They are a band full of life. The new single “I won’t worry” rhythm is contagious. It’s cheerful and lively. That jumping and clapping around is a sure way to put a smile on your face. “No, I won’t worry no more”

I can’t wait to hear more. Great job lads!

These boys are going places. Having formed only a short while ago they have a concise, mature sound and have done well with making themselves accessible to fans. Although they do need to share a bit more information about themselves, we all like to read-up on bands that interest us.

A sleek neo-mod look, captivating videos and appealing photography. They are working the sexy, rebel, rock-star vibe!

I discovered Levity Breaks a few months ago and I was quite impressed by their sound. My opinion was and still is that they are a band to watch. For what i’ve heard so far, they produce catchy and melodic tunes with powerful progressions and stunning vocals. On September 22nd, 2011 at the Radar in Belfast, they are officially releasing their new single called “The Floor”.

Solely produced by the band, “The Floor” is a song that makes us wonder why we are doing or not doing something. With Marty’s effortless vocals, Richie’s driving and energetic guitars, Jonny’s hammered pianos and Lenny’s hard hitting drums, it urges us to get up and just do it. The song has a powerful hook and I can easily imagine movie scenes where it could be used.
